Unlike cryogenics, cryo-genetics combine the lowering of a human’s body temperature with the selective deactivation of gene pairs, placing the individual in a state of pseudo-natural hibernation. Brain function is mostly suspended, although some cryo-sleepers report remembering dreams. This state requires active maintenance in a pod or suit, and, in case of failure, the sleeper will revert to their normal state on their own, with some errors. The process is uncomfortable in the extreme and sometimes fatal, however, and consumes large amounts of the body’s ATP molecules, so it is recommended to provide them with emergency medical care as soon as feasible.
